    We tell stories the way our elders did—on porches, around dinner tables, and in the heartbeats of those who knew a good story was meant to be passed down like a beloved family heirloom.

    That legacy continues in Studio 8278 [eighty-two seventy-eight].

    Studio 8278 is a Detroit-based creative studio centering Black stories, culture, and futures. Founded by Cornetta Lane-Smith, our work uses storytelling, film, and immersive experiences to celebrate the depth and brilliance of Black Detroiters. Projects like Pedal to Porch, Dinner for 30, and our newest series, Recipes of Resistance, create space for truth-telling that heals and transforms.

    The name is inspired by 8278 Greenlawn, the home of Cornetta’s grandmother and the porch where her love for storytelling first took root. That address isn’t just our beginning; it guides everything we do.

    At Studio 8278, Black stories aren’t a side note. They are the center.
